Throughout the rainy (and snowy) spring months of March and April, Minnesota United continued to strive for positive community impact. With this goal in mind – no pun intended – the club partnered with several incredible organizations doing great work in our community. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite moments from the past few months in order to help keep you informed.
Best Buddies – Lunch and Learn
On March 14, Best Buddies came to the MNUFC offices to host a Lunch and Learn, in which they taught our staff members more about disability awareness and etiquette when working within the community.
Keystone Community Services – Feminine Care Supply Drive
From March 27-30, MNUFC hosted a Feminine Care Supply Drive at Allianz Field. Guests that brought in an item from a provided list received 10% off at the Black and Blue Team Store – with all items given to Keystone Community Services for proper distribution and maximum impact.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - Unified tryouts
On April 12, MNUFC’s Unified Team held tryouts to add some new athletes to the roster. In partnership with Special Olympics Minnesota, the Unified Team is comprised of players both with and without intellectual disabilities.
Tickets for Kids Allianz Field tour
On April 12, Tickets for Kids took a tour of Allianz Field to learn about the stadium and what it takes to maintain it.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Big Night GALA
On April 19, Dayne St. Clair and DJ Taylor attended the Big Brother Big Sisters Big Night GALA, where they made some donations and spent an excellent evening with their Man of the Match Beneficiary.
African Classroom Connection – Freedom Day Celebration
On April 19, Bongokuhle Hlongwane joined African Classroom Connection for a Freedom Day celebration in support of their mission to provide educational resources and facilitate the building of schools in South Africa.
V3 – Lunch and Learn
On April 25, Executive Director of V3 Sports, Malik Rucker, shared his story and the mission of V3 in a Lunch and Learn with MNUFC. Erika L. Binger founded V3 Sports in 2007 to teach under-invested youth to swim and train for triathlons, but it has now expanded beyond sports to further empower our community. The V3 Center is currently in phase two of three in their goal of creating a space for community outreach, fitness, education and entrepreneurship, and human development.
nVent – Clean Up
For the past five seasons, Minnesota United staff has taken the time to go out into the neighborhoods surrounding Allianz Field to help the City of St. Paul Public Works team collect trash/recyclables. On April 26, MNUFC employees teamed up with employees from nVent to continue this tradition of helping clean up the midway.
